AI visibility audit: does ChatGPT recommend your website?
Axpecto's AI Visibility check is a generative engine optimization (GEO) audit for websites. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions your buyers ask, with live web search turned on, and counts how often each one names your brand, links your pages as a source, and names a competitor instead.
It also checks the site itself: whether AI crawlers may read it, whether its structured data says who you are, and whether its pages hold answers an assistant can quote. Anything it could not measure is left out of the score, never counted as zero.

What does an AI visibility audit measure?
Seven dimensions. The first four read your site and are checked by fixed rules, with no AI model involved. The last three come from real answers given by AI assistants.
| Dimension | The question it answers | How it is measured |
|---|---|---|
| AI crawler access | Can GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended read your pages? | robots.txt rules per crawler, and how much text is served without JavaScript |
| Machine-readable signals | Do your pages say what they are? | JSON-LD, canonical URLs, meta descriptions, sitemap and llms.txt |
| Brand and entity clarity | Can AI tell which business you are? | Organization schema fields, linked official profiles, consistent naming |
| Content answerability | Do your pages hold answers an assistant can quote? | Answer-first openings, facts and figures, lists and tables, dates |
| Prompt visibility | Do assistants name you when buyers ask? | Live answers from each AI engine, with web search on |
| Citation readiness | Do assistants link your pages as their source? | The source URLs each answer returned |
| Competitive share of voice | Who gets named instead of you, and how early? | Every brand named in the answers, in the order they appear |
How does Axpecto check whether ChatGPT mentions my brand?
- It reads your site and writes questions for your business the way your own customers would ask them: category questions, problems, comparisons, alternatives to a competitor, and questions about you by name.
- It searches the web for the products you compete with today, so the comparison and alternatives questions name your real competitors.
- Each question goes to every AI engine you chose, with live web search on.
- A question that missed you is asked again, and only counts as lost if it misses every time.
- Mentions are counted from the answer text, citations from the source links the answer returned. No model is asked what it thinks of your site.
- If an answer uses your name but describes a different business, it is reported as a confusion and not counted as a mention.
You can add your own questions and focus keywords. They are asked word for word on every check, so two checks of the same site can be compared.
Which AI assistants does it check?
- ChatGPT (OpenAI, with web search): always asked.
- Gemini (Google, grounded in Google Search): optional per site.
- Claude (Anthropic, with web search): optional per site.
- Perplexity: optional per site, off by default.
Each engine is reported on its own, because which assistant a buyer uses decides which answer they get.
What do I get from the report?
- An AI Visibility Score out of 100, with which of the seven dimensions it is based on.
- Every question asked, which engines named you, and who they named instead.
- Share of voice against the competitors the answers actually named.
- The websites AI assistants cite for your category, and whether any of them are yours.
- How AI describes you, quoted word for word, and which of your own claims it leaves out.
- A prioritised fix list and plan, from robots.txt and schema to the pages worth writing.
- A fix brief you can hand to your coding agent (Claude Code, Codex or Cursor) with one prompt.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO tools measure where a page ranks in a list of links. An AI assistant gives one written answer and names a few brands and sources in it. Being on page one of Google does not mean ChatGPT names you, so AI visibility has to be measured by asking the assistants directly, which is what this check does.
